What is the purpose of this role?
Being the UK's largest Water Service Company, our client is responsible for providing the highest quality drinking water and exceptional service to 8.9m customers every day. In meeting these obligations they produce and distribute over 2800million litres of water through our water network each day and as a supply chain commercial lead, you will be responsible for working with our alliance partners to streamline our supply chain, enabling lower costs, reduced risk, greater efficiency and better quality through tendering of specific projects.

Working alongside a range of stakeholders and alliance partners to model and retender packages of work ensuring that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and whilst maintaining excellent service to customers and the communities we operate in.

The successful candidate will be expected to have an in-depth understanding of developing and leading the tender for packages of work and must have practical experience of commercial modelling in order to hit the ground running.

This role can be based out of any of our sites in Reading, Oxfordshire or London however regular travel across the Thames Valley and London will be required.

What makes this role unique?
This is a unique role that offers the individual a broad area of responsibility, whilst having a direct influence on the creation of a market shift in how subcontracted labour is procured and managed.
You will gain exposure to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across a large geographical area and will be tasked with creating tenders and developing a pipeline for the future.

Key areas of accountability:
We are looking for someone who is experienced in tendering, working within a complex organisation in collaboration with alliance partners, delivering change as required.

Key areas of accountability will include;
  • Develop and lead the tender processes for packages of work (sub-contract labour)
  • Deploy highly developed commercial skills to source and renegotiate with external suppliers.
  • Model risk and reward mechanisms for improving performance within the subcontract supply chain.
  • Collaboratively develop relationships, promoting one team across the two joint venture commercial teams.
  • Significant stakeholder engagement and liaison with across a diverse population.
  • Interface with the group commercial business area, ensuring a holistic and collaborative approach on sourcing activities.
  • Maintain a dynamic and prompt customer service attitude in all day to day activities.
  • Be assertive and challenging, holding stakeholders to account for compliance, adherence to policies and time scales.
What skills are we looking for?
This role requires a credible and commercial lead with significant knowledge of putting together tendering packages or sub-contracting commercial agreements. You will possess exceptional communication skills and ideally will have worked within an alliance previously.

Additionally, other areas of experience necessary are:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tendering packages of work.
  • Proven Stakeholder engagement, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Preferably educated to degree level.
  • Ideally experience within the Water industry.
  • A legal understanding and awareness of the sub-contacting market.
  • Strong influencing skills with a resilient approach to work.
  • Possess the willingness to take calculated risks and will be comfortable operating under stressful conditions.
Due to the nature of the role you will have a clean and full UK driving licence and must be comfortable travelling across the region regularly.

Salary information:
This role can be based out of any of our sites in Reading, Oxfordshire or London however regular travel across the Thames Valley and London will be required.

The day rate on offer for this role is circa £500 per day, dependant on skills and experience.
