Student IT Workshop/Support Technician - Part-Time
£8.25 Per Hour

An excellent opportunity exists for the right IT course or degree student to join either of our enthusiastic and dedicated IT Workshop and Support teams. Helping them to provide a service to a wide variety of end users consisting of retail branch, warehouse and Head Office personnel as well as home and remote users. The IT Workshop and Support teams are a diverse, flexible, professional group of people working in a fast-paced environment.
The Workshop role will include regular repairs and maintenance of a wide variety of IT systems, including desktop/laptop hardware, printers, EPOS terminals and related hardware, handheld scanners and many more. The IT Workshop Technician will also be responsible for the configuration of Cisco networking equipment, research and development into new technologies and carrying out new installations throughout the warehouse, Head Office and remote sites.
The Support role will involve handling calls to the IT Support Desk, providing support by answering queries over the telephone, via email and Sharepoint. You will be supporting a broad range of systems, including EPOS terminals and related hardware, desktop/laptop hardware, hand-held scanners, Cisco networking equipment and back office systems. You will take ownership of all calls and problems reported to you, ensuring they are resolved within SLAs and escalated where necessary.
The experience will give the successful applicant a wide range of IT skills which can be used to progress to the step in the career after completing further/higher education.
Desirable experience and skills
- Intelligent and confident individual with a strong interest in computing
- Studying IT at College or Degree Level
- Able to work well within a team and without direct supervision
- Strong organisational skills
- Diligent and meticulous with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience with IT Hardware
We offer further training and learning for anyone who wishes to progress and attain industry recognised certifications such as Dell Hardware Technician, Brother Printer Engineer and Microsoft Technical qualifications. There are no restrictions on what you can learn.
Hours are flexible and will require a minimum of one weekend day a week (either Saturday or Sunday). We also offer the opportunity to work extra hours in the week where classes allow and for you to go full time during holiday periods. All we ask is that working extra does not get in the way of your coursework or studies.
