Got proven management skills and the drive to run a busy, motorway service station store? Good news: we think you could be on track to go far.

This is a fantastic opportunity to manage our store in our Baldock Motorway Services store where you will be accountable for the day to day running, management and performance of the store and a team of 4. This could be an ideal opportunity for a first step into your management career, and put your own stamp on a store that with the right attitude has a huge amount of potential.

What you'll do

The best store managers take real pride in running outstanding stores, thinking of them as their own. Determined to turn every customer's visit into a great experience, you'll lead your team in upholding the highest standards, as you drive sales and manage costs in line with strict KPIs. There are security considerations and landlord relationships to nurture within our motorway service station stores & regular communications with suppliers too. There's also the employee lifecycle to think about, from recruitment and training onwards. You'll take charge of your team's development, ensuring they're ready to give great service. Who we're looking for

Someone who has excellent people, communication and inter personal skills to drive and inspire the team to deliver the highest possible standards. A flair for exploiting business opportunities and commercial awareness will also be essential to the role. You lead by example, rolling your sleeves up and helping out on the shop floor. With this approach, you'll win the respect of staff at every level, getting the best from each individual and encouraging them to develop. You will take full responsibility for P&L, and KPI's. Ideally, you will have ideally previous Retail Store Management experience, but we would also love to hear from experiences Supervisors or Team Leaders that want the first opportunity to run their own store.. If you're drive is as high as the standards you'll set, you'll go far at WHSmith!

There are a couple of things to bear in mind though: given the location of the store, and the extended trading hours (until 22:00 each day) you'll need to have access to a car.

Whilst this role is advertised as full time, we welcome applications from individuals whose circumstances might not fit this, as we have a flexible approach to running our stores.
