Are you looking for a fresh challenge?

An opportunity to use your expertise, compassion and positive outlook?

A new adventure with a committed team?

Would you like to join a team that works together, where everyone counts and aim to make a difference to the patients they care for?

West Mendip Community Hospital would like to invite you to apply for our Registered Nurse vacancy.

You may be newly qualified or working in an acute hospital, nursing home or other community setting, whatever your background we will support your transferable clinical skills and professional development. All we ask is that you have compassion and a drive to provide excellent hands on nursing care.

At West Mendip Hospital we are a team of Nurses and therapists who all possess the same focus, getting our patients back to their normal place of residence whilst promoting their independence along the way. We encourage patients to manage their own needs ensuring they are confident for their safe and proactive discharge.

We are a nurse led unit, which provides plenty of opportunity to use your decision making and autonomous nursing skills.

West Mendip Hospital is a modern, well-equipped hospital located in a beautiful part of the county on the outskirts of Glastonbury, with lovely views of the Mendip Hills and Glastonbury Tor. In your own time you might enjoy a walk up to Glastonbury Tor, or a shopping trip to the idyllic Clark's Village nearby. We also have great travel links to Bristol and Exeter.

West Mendip hospital has 30 inpatient reablement beds; our patients include short-term rehab and end of life care. You will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of personalised care plans. We are currently undergoing refurbishment to make the hospital more dementia-friendly, including creating a lovely, enclosed dementia garden for all our patients to enjoy.

Hear what NHS England have to say about HomeFirst:

'Patients avoid 7,500 nights in hospital with ‘tailored’ home help scheme' - scheme offers patients who are healthy enough, and their families, tailored help to finish therapy at home, with personalised care reducing stays in hospital by up to ten days.

As a Nurse on the Reablement Unit, you will be responsible for the assessment of Patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment plans. You will be working alongside other professionals within the multidisciplinary team; ensuring high-quality care and effective communication is maintained.

You should demonstrate a compassionate and caring approach to your care delivery, working with patients who have undergone surgery or been medically unwell to support their rehabilitation.

Whilst the NHS is changing to be community focused; we can offer skill development opportunities in many areas of practice. The successful candidate will also be working within a developing model of care. Care is delivered on a personalised basis jointly developed with the patient and/ or carers.

Since 2017 we have been participating in an exciting new project working in conjunction with Yeovil District Hospital – our Home first pathway and model of care. We have a positive, pro-active attitude towards the Home First Pathway, working hard to ensure the stay in our Reablement Unit is both short and supported.

Amongst all the usual benefits; an excellent annual leave package, national NHS discounts, staff recognition awards and great learning and development opportunities, we will give you the time to care for your patients, as well as a free parking space!
