We are a growing organisation with a strong focus on the development of Neuropsychiatry and Neurobehavioural services in the future.

An opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Heathers working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Heathers in Birmingham is a 20 bed specialist rehabilitation service for adult males with an acquired brain injury (ABI). Our person-centred and flexible ABI rehabilitation programme aims to reduce risk, maximise independence, improve quality of life and, where possible, help those affected to recover to the best of their ability. Typically, our service users will have an acquired brain injury as a result of an accident or a stroke. Other service users will be admitted due to early onset progressive nervous system dysfunction, which may derive from hereditary and sporadic conditions such as Huntington’s Disease. We are committed to maximising personal choice, independence, and supporting each individual to draw up their own individual care plan so that physical, emotional, social and personal development needs are met in a person-centred way.

In this role you will:

• Work independently with individuals to assess communication needs
• Provide functional targets and recommendations to aid day-to-day communicative success
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and support the implementation of the therapeutic and neurobehavioural approach
• Develop and maintain the SLT service within the unit, reporting to the Head of Speech and Language Therapy and onsite unit manager
• Ensure audits are completed
• Respond to referrals and be responsible for ensuring a total communication environment is maintained and the RCSLT 5 good communication standards are utilised

Are you the successful candidate we are looking for?

• A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy
• HCPC Registration
• Experience with an ABI client group and/or associated behavioural difficulties is essential
• Currently operating as a Specialist SLT (Band 6) or equivalent
• A relevant qualification in Dysphagia is preferred, if not already obtained then training can be provided
• The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
