The Training team covers a diverse range of activities in support of Anaesthetists across the UK. Activities involve working with Postgraduate Deans, Deaneries as well as Health Education England and the General Medical Council (GMC) in the quality assurance of Anaesthesia training across the UK. Day-to-day tasks include responding to queries on the College’s Lifelong Learning platform, maintaining trainee records, and assessing applications for changes to individual training pathways; this diverse activity encompasses understanding of the Anaesthetic Curriculum.
The department offers support to the Regional Advisers, Deputy Regional Advisers, and College Tutors as well as others involved in the delivery of anaesthetic training such Training Programme Directors. The development of College policy on the management of training and issues across the UK is an important role of the Training team as is the strategy for workforce planning for England and providing advice when required for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
As part of the Training team, the successful candidate will deliver advice and guidance to trainee Anaesthetists, trainers and Deaneries on anaesthesia training policy and procedural issues. Providing support to users of the online Lifelong Learning platform system is a significant element of the post and involves help-guides, advice by telephone or email. This is a unique administrative role, which requires analytical skills and the aptitude to interpret and explain complex procedures and rules from the ever-changing curriculum.
This role also involves monitoring and housekeeping duties for departmental team inboxes; triaging incoming emails and reporting issues or exceptions to the Training Manager. This requires a proactive approach due to the volumes of emails received as well as an aptitude for understanding and handling data. The role-holder will also be expected to service committee meetings, including taking minutes, liaising with the chair to set the agenda, circulating relevant papers, and arranging meetings.
The ideal candidate will use their highly developed organisational and administrative skills to efficiently complete a variety of tasks ranging from file management to guiding and advising our client’s members, as well as managing data. They will be joining a friendly team who deliver to the highest standards through their conscientious approach to work and therefore the successful candidate will also need to be a highly motivated and flexible team player.
