Purpose and summary of job:

The post holder will work for Cambian Meeko House. The unit provides care to young people between the ages of 12 and 18 presenting with mental health crisis for assessment and management of risk and mental state. The post holder will provide their main clinical input to Meeko House but will also provide cover for the step down units as needed.

Cambian Meeko House is a 16 bedded children’s residential home catering for 12 – 18 year olds with on-going mental health needs and challenging behaviors that may prevent them from functioning within the community without continued support

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY RESULT AREAS

General Duties

  • Undertake clinical audits.
  • Contribute to Clinical Governance meetings.
  • Such additional or other duties as Cambian Healthcare may at any time from time to time require you to undertake to meet the needs of the Cambian Group.
  • Work within the Active Care Programme.

    Clinical

  • Assess all patients by completing a thorough history and examination including physical examination.
  • Responsible for the completion of necessary CPA, Managers Panels and Mental Health Tribunal reports in conjunction.
  • Liaise with referring consultant psychiatrists or other clinical staff involved in patients’ care.
  • Attend care programme approach meetings, ward rounds, managers’ panels, mental health review tribunals and multidisciplinary care planning meetings.
  • To prescribe and review medication
  • Initiating treatment plans using the care programme approach and good medical practice within the MDT setting, ensuring effective use of resources and the updating of plans within agreed time limits.
  • Responsible for coordinating the smooth flow of care from admission to discharge.
  • Maintain and monitor standards of care in line with Cambian principles and vision statement and the guidelines set out by the GMC and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Providing Cover for the step down units as needed

    On call

  • On call for Willows with the Consultant for willows during weekdays
  • They will also be on the weekend on call rota which is shared within the wider group

    Communication

  • Liaise with all members of the MDT, GPs, relatives and other professional agencies.
  • The post holder will need to develop a comprehensive range of working relationships and communication channels with the following:
  • Staff within the Cambian Group.
  • Therapists working with the patients.
  • Primary Healthcare Team
  • Health and Social Services
  • Police liaison service.
  • Relatives and carers.
  • Mental Health Act Services including the Ministry of Justice and Solicitors.

    Marketing

  • Actively market the hospital and promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community and Primary Care Trusts.

    Training & Development

  • One session per week will be dedicated to a range of academic activities including the evidence-based practice club, case conferences and both internal and external lectures. There is also a dedicated session for educational, research and audit supervision.
  • Participation in Continued Professional Development in order to keep abreast of current best practice and be aware of important developments within the field of medicine.
  • The post holder will be supervised by the Consultant at willows and Associate Clinical Director to ensure annual appraisal of performance is undertaken which includes training needs analysis and personal development plan.

    Health & Safety

  • Report immediately to the head of care, or the hospital manager, or the person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Patient, colleague, self or another.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the Hospital’s Health and Safety Policy, Emergency and Fire Procedures.
  • Report to the head of care or the hospital manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment or any potential hazard.

    Miscellaneous

  • The post holder will be required to provide cross cover to the step down units as mentioned previously.
  • The post will include on call responsibilities.
  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Hospital / Unit. To act as a positive role model, maintaining professionalism and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families visitors and others.
  • To demonstrate non-discriminatory practice in all aspects of work.
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence in line with recommendations from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the GMC.
  • Notify the hospital manager, the head of psychiatry and the supervising consultant as soon as possible of the inability to report for duty, and also on return to work, from all periods of absence.
  • Ensure the security of the hospital is maintained at all times.
  • To participate in agreed systems of appraisal and individual performance review.
  • Adhere to all Group policies and procedures, and protocols within the defined timescales, Care Quality Commission standards and guidelines, Department of Health guidelines and legislation, including the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice.
