Specialty Doctor in Cellular Pathology

New Post.

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Cellular Pathology based at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is offered in association with Brighton and Sussex Medical School. It is available from 1 September 2020, and is a permanent Specialty Doctor grade post. This is a new, whole time equivalent post.

The position is open to suitably qualified clinicians at specialist registrar/lecturer level in cellular pathology who have a specific interest in medical education with an established track record in the design, development and delivery of high quality teaching and assessment at the undergraduate level. The post holder must fulfil the entry requirements to the NHS SAS grade and hold at least diplomate membership of the Royal College of Pathologists of the United Kingdom.

The educational component of the post comprises 6PA and includes responsibility for teaching the BSMS cellular pathology programme to year 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 BSMS medical students. The post holder will contribute to curriculum development, curriculum design and delivery, assessment including admissions, use of portfolios in medical education, electronic and blended learning, and interprofessional learning. The post holder should support BSMS students as a personal or academic tutor and is encouraged to apply for such with BSMS under its usual tutor application frameworks.

The clinical component of the post comprises 2PA with 2SPA and, includes responsibility for direct clinical care by reporting cellular pathology specimens with focus on Dermatopathology.

The post-holder is expected to complete a PG Cert in Medical Education.

Appointees will be supported in developing research interests.
