An exciting opportunity has arisen within Airbus Engineering in the UK for an experienced Material Engineer or Chemist to join the Surface Technology team in Materials, Processes and Test Department.
You will work as part of a highly motivated team to develop and deploy new benchmark applied Chemistry in the field of Chromate free surface treatments. Within a dedicated project team a new Chromate free basic primer will be developed in the next years. For this project we are seeking for an experienced Materials Engineer or Chemist with a deep knowledge in corrosion and/or coating development. Both position either as corrosion mechanism or paint formulation specialist offers an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute to innovative work that improves the environmental footprint of aircraft by applying the latest paint technologies.

The job holder will report to the head of the functional department and to the project manager/technical team leader.

Tasks & accountabilities
The job holder will be responsible for the following main tasks:
-Leads and drive research, development, qualification and support activities for structural paints with special focus on assessment and development EHS compliant primer / paint system
-Assess technical performance of product proposals by definition of test programs, perform testing and preparation of technical reports
-Define technical requirements for development and production
-Specify material performance in Airbus or international standards
-Represent Airbus on national and international conference & working groups
-Perform root cause analysis on structural paint issues relevant for aircraft corrosion performance
-Contributes to the technology development strategy
-Contribute to the continuous processes reviews and improvements
-Contributes to the product development with material supplier
-Act as interface to Airbus internal and external stakeholder as focal point within his/her expertise
We are looking for candidates with the following skills:
· Graduated in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Material Engineering
· Several years of experience in corrosion, paint & coating is mandatory
· Working experience in international projects mandatory
· Very good communication and analytical skills mandatory
· Ability to work in multi-location international team
· Working language is English
