Specialist Physiotherapist in Neuromuscular Disorders
Senior Physiotherapist – Neuromuscular Disorders
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust
Salary - Band 6
37.5 hours per week
An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 with previous paediatric experience to join the neuromuscular physiotherapy team at GOSH. This is a rare opportunity to specialise in an area of paediatrics that spans neurology, orthopaedic/MSK and respiratory services. The Dubowitz Neuromuscular Service is the largest paediatric neuromuscular service in the country taking children from all over the UK and abroad, for diagnosis and on-going assessment and management. The work is mainly clinic based but children admitted can be seen on the wards with respiratory problems, for orthopaedic surgery and for hydrotherapy and rehabilitation. Contracture management, splinting and orthotics are important adjuncts to our work. At the beginning of 2020, the physiotherapy department moved into a brand new purpose built gym with a gait room and splinting room.
The neuromuscular physiotherapy team has recently expanded due to exciting changes in new treatments in the neuromuscular field. The team comprises of a Band 8, 4 band 7’s (one full time and 3 part time), a rotational band 6 physiotherapist, a band 4 physiotherapy assistant as well as this non-rotational Band 6 post. We also work closely with the neuromuscular physiotherapy research team. You would be working in a large multi-disciplinary team where there is a major emphasis on teaching and research. We frequently take students from the UK and abroad.
We are part of the wider physiotherapy team and the post includes on call and weekend duties and gives further departmental training and opportunities.
