Do you possess outstanding life experience and the resilience to teach and mentor young people with Complex SEMH/SEND? We are seeking an exceptional, unqualified teacher/instructor to deliver a bespoke curriculum and transform outcomes for vulnerable students in our Alternative Provision setting in Barnoldswick, Lancashire.

The Role: Teaching with Impact, Not QTS

This pivotal role focuses on relationship-based teaching for students who have faced significant educational and social barriers. While Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is NOT required, you must have substantial experience, expertise, and passion in a field relevant to working with disengaged or vulnerable young people.

What You Will Do:
  • Deliver Bespoke Learning: Plan and teach engaging, highly differentiated lessons to small groups or 1:1, focusing on core subjects (e.g., Functional Skills Maths/English) or a vocational/specialist area (e.g., Outdoor Education, Construction, Creative Arts).

  • Implement Therapeutic Strategies: Use a trauma-informed and restorative approach to manage complex and challenging behaviour, creating a safe, consistent, and nurturing learning environment.

  • Focus on SEMH/SEND: Work closely with the SENCO and support staff to ensure all teaching aligns with students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.

  • Be a Mentor: Act as a key adult and positive role model, building professional, trusting relationships that enable students to regulate their emotions and re-engage with education.

  • Team Leadership: Direct and guide support staff (Teaching Assistants/TAs) within your classroom or intervention setting to maximise student outcomes.

??? Essential Expertise (QTS Not Required)

We value life skills, professional resilience, and relevant experience over formal teaching qualifications for this specialist setting.

  • Relevant Experience is Mandatory: Proven, significant experience in a challenging environment such as Alternative Provision (AP), a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Youth Work, Residential Care, Social Care, or SEN/SEMH settings.

  • Behaviour Management: Expert-level ability in positive behaviour intervention and de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training/experience is highly desirable).

  • Subject Knowledge: A strong background or vocational qualification in the subject area you will teach (e.g., a degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent industry experience).

  • Resilience & Patience: The capacity to remain calm, patient, and consistent when dealing with highly distressed or challenging young people.
