The post

This exciting part-time position is available for an experienced applied psychologist looking to extend their skills and knowledge by taking on the clinical lead role for the Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) service at Crowley House, Approved Premises for women in Birmingham. The post-holder will work 4 days a week as the Clinical Lead for PIPE at Crowley House. Informal enquiries about the post are encouraged (see below).

The Approved Premises at Crowley House is a highly specialised service, providing 20 beds and taking women on community sentences or on licence upon release from custody from the Midlands and nationally. The PIPE model has become well established after initial implementation in line with a project plan agreed with our probation service partners and the service has retained accreditation as an Enabling Environment as overseen by The Royal College of Psychiatry. Working in collaboration with the PIPE Operational Lead / Approved Premises manager, you will be responsible for supporting the probation service staff in implementing all aspects of PIPE service delivery and you will ensure high quality project updates and performance data is available to service commissioners according to established protocols. You will also need to liaise effectively with senior probation officers who hold operational responsibility for this important area of national probation service delivery. The PIPE service at Crowley House is supported by a part-time assistant psychologist who is supervised by the Clinical Lead.

PIPEs are specifically designed environments, operating in Prisons and Probation Approved Premises, where staff members have additional training to help them develop an increased psychosocial understanding of their work, creating an enhanced safe and supportive environment to facilitate the development of those who live there. Key elements of the PIPE model include: supporting an ‘Enabling Environment’ accreditation; provision of staff training and development; coordination and provision of structured sessions for residents, including socially creative sessions and key worker sessions; and implementation of high quality clinical supervision.
