The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.
We’re currently looking for an experienced SENCO in Darwen, Nr Blackburn, Lancashire for our Woodlands School.
Our school provides support for boys aged 10-19 with a variety of social, emotional and mental health challenges. The learning environment and facilities here allow students to access a varied curriculum in a calm and nurturing environment and the team strives to give every student the confidence and opportunities to achieve their full potential.
Over view of the role:
As our new Senco you will provide high quality, co-ordinated support for pupils with SEND and liaise with their parents, teachers and other professionals who are involved with them. This also includes general SEND assessments, administration and parental support. You must be able to communicate a clear vision for the SEND team and school, collaborating with curriculum teachers at the school to make sure that the learning requirements of our pupils are expertly catered for. You will develop and strategically lead the SEND provision with a dedicated and passionate team of professionals who are committed in providing our learners with the educational experience which reflects the Aurora vision and values.
Your role will ultimately be accountable for all areas of SEND provision, EHCP reviews, IEPs, intervention provision, teaching assistant and HLTA deployment as well as being the designated teacher for LAC pupils.
Currently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted; as our SENCO you will be a key figure in shaping our provision; driving our curriculum development and contribute to achieving the ‘Outstanding’ school that we aspire all of our schools to be.
To achieve this you will be someone who is innovative and highly effective in working with SEND pupils with experience at Secondary level. With this pivotal role you will lead, develop and manage a high standard of provision for learners with additional educational needs. You will be committed to ensuring that the standards of attainment are high and that students make accelerated and sustained progress. The successful candidate will also be timetabled to deliver some teaching inputs.

Successful candidate are likely to demonstrate the following:
- Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN
- Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
- Commitment to the role, the desire to put children first and treat them as individuals
- Be positive and creative in meeting pupils’ needs
- Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills
- Superb communication and stakeholder management skills
