South Lakeland District Council is seeking to recruit either a solicitor or legal executive to its Legal Services Team. The post is based at the Council’s head offices in Kendal.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing advice to clients on a range of matters including property, planning, litigation, prosecutions, licensing, environmental health and general governance matters. There will be a focus on property related matters which will include conveyancing transactions, both freehold and leasehold of registered and unregistered land, including sales, purchases, deeds of exchange, leases, tenancy agreements, licences, easements and compulsory purchase orders.
You will attend Council committee meetings and working groups as required, providing advice to officers and elected members. You will also demonstrate the ability to work well as an individual and as a member of our small team.
The solicitor post requires the successful candidate to possess a relevant degree and current practising certificate.
Previous experience in property and at least one of the following is required: - local government, planning, contract law, litigation, prosecutions, regulatory and procurement law.
The successful candidate must possess good IT literacy skills and have the ability to use electronic publications for the purpose of legal work and research.
This is a career-graded post and candidates will be appointed on the following scales:
- Qualified solicitor - Salary Scale K (£34,538 to £37,306) per annum
- Legal Executive - Salary Scale I (£28,485 to £30,785) per annum
