Aston EyeTech Limited (AET) is a spin-out company established by Aston University’s leading School of Optometry (Department of Life & Health Sciences) and financed by private equity. We are developing innovative hardware and software solutions for the medical and ophthalmic industries world-wide, including big name high street opticians. Our team consists of some of the leading engineers and academics in the ophthalmic industry.

We are a focused and highly motivated unit that we firmly believe can make significant improvements to the delivery of eye health, clinical trials and the healthcare profession throughout the UK, Europe and beyond.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive Computer Vision expert to work in the Software Engineering team on the creation and development the Company’s software products. Both, standalone software and embedded hardware control software.

The Role

As part of the Algorithms Team, you will be an experienced and highly motivated individual working to build the Company’s software products for customers.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this exciting role include;

·Helping the CIO and the wider team to turn product concepts into market leading products.

·Developing the algorithms used in our new and innovative software products.

·Working closely with the Hardware Engineering team to create products that seamlessly combine hardware and software.

Key Activities

SOFTWARE DESIGN

·Turn product concepts into designs and blueprints for commercial grade software products.

·Write documentation and customer training material.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

·Turn designs and blueprints into commercial grade software products.

·Be passionate about developing the best software engineering solutions you can, innovation must be a driving force behind what you do.

·Write well written, tested and documented code, root out hard to find software issues and solve problems to meet our customer requirements.

·Manage all source code using a distributed version control system.

·You will be expected, with support, to learn and apply new skills.

GENERAL

·Contribute to good corporate governance, especially in regard to IT.

·Work using an agile project management methodology.

Experience and Skills Required

·Educated to Ph.D. level in an Engineering or Computer Science related field.

·A degree, or equivalent, in Computer Vision, Computer Science, or other relevant technical discipline.

·Qualifications, experience, or proven competence in real-time computer vision algorithm development and technology.

·In depth knowledge and experience with OpenCV.

  • In depth experience with a range of software languages and tools, including C or C++.

·Willingness to learn new technologies and take pride in how fast one can develop working software.

·Strong grasp of mathematics and the confidence to apply it.

Also desirable:

  • Experience working with the Scrum agile development methodology.
  • Experience or knowledge of machine learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of Python, Matlab, and/or LabView.
  • Experience with .NET.

·Experience implementing software Unit Testing.
