Location: Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire
Salary: Competitive, DOE
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm

Short Description:

We are a leading gas detection company specialising in the design, development and manufacture of innovative gas sensors and detectors. Due to continued growth and completion of building a state of the art facility we have an exciting position for a Software Engineer to join our highly motivated team in South Cambridgeshire.

This role focuses on the design and development of software for world class gas detectors. Reporting to the Technology Manager and working collaboratively with team members, the successful candidate will require a 'can do' approach focused on team orientated development.

You will take designs from concept through to serial product while demonstrating compliance to applicable standards. We need someone with a passion for developing new software whilst also catering for legacy systems.

Software Engineer - The Role:

The Role will report to the Technology Manager and will involve the following:

  • Work with product managers and engineers to develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Write well-designed, testable code
  • Produce detailed specifications
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Provide estimates to enable project planning
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems
  • Document software modifications
  • Comply with industry standards
  • Identify & record metrics for software activities

Software Engineer - The Person:

This is a hands-on role and the person appointed will:-

Software Engineer - Technical Qualities:

Due to the hands-on nature of the position we seek candidates possessing extensive and recent experience in the following areas:

  • Proven work experience as a software engineer or software developer in a commercial
  • Environment, where products must be delivered to scope, budget and schedule
  • Development experience using one or more of the following languages C#.Net, Java,
  • Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Wicket, GWT, Swing MVC) would be an advantage
  • Experience developing GUI for PC
  • Experience of developing apps for Android and iOS will be advantageous
  • Strong ability to write structured code and good documentation
  • Possess a working knowledge of Jira or other bug tracking software
  • Have excellent levels of attention to detail

Technical Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
