Our client is a well established company with solid and extensive experience of designing structures, holding a number of patents within the field of structural health monitoring. On behalf of our client we want to recruit for a Software/Embedded Engineer to join a small team developing an exciting and ambitious new product.
The project focuses on a new system that will remotely monitor and report on the structural condition of lighting columns, supports and structures in real time. This requires analysis of data derived from continuous monitoring of column deflection, wind direction and speed, temperature etc.
In order to speed up progress towards commercial production and implementation, we need a Software/Embedded Engineer to develop the software systems using embedded and web based tools.
This post may be suitable for new graduates or for more experienced persons. Having experience of working through all stages of project development would be highly beneficial. Within the development cycle, you will have responsibility for tasks such as requirements gathering, development, delivery and support.
• Involvement in the full project lifecycle for new project work from initial design/development to product release
• Prepare design documentation and specifications
• Help plan and create the embedded software system infrastructure
• Design and develop detailed data analysis, test plans and undertake full testing of all developments prior to release
• Use efficient, reusable and reliable code to ensure the best possible performance quality for a robust application
• Identify bottlenecks, bugs and troubleshoot to devise solutions to coding problems
Required Embedded Software Skills/Experience
•Minimum 2nd class degree in Computer Science (or able to provide evidence of being able to understand and operate at an equivalent level of complexity)
•Exposure to Product Life Cycle and Embedded Software Development methodologies
•Solid development experience using Programming C, C++ and Assembly languages
•Experience of software version control (GIT)
•Development for an embedded system (ARM / other microcontrollers, processors, DSP)
•Development using Real-time operating systems
•Use of development and debugging tools in an embedded system (e.g. JTAG)
•Familiarity with interfacing to serial ports, A/D and D/A converters, RAM/Flash memories, and other digital electronics
•Knowledge and some experience with Wireless communication standards and protocols, e.g. 6LoWPAN, LoRA, ZIGBEE based embedded solutions
Desired Experience (not Essential)
•Technical knowledge of various servers, OS systems, platforms and debuggers
•Knowledge of MISRA-C guidelines for C language
To be considered for this role the candidate should demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, a good level of attention to detail with an open mindset and willingness to work on projects that might be outside of their comfort zone.
The salary will be £24-30k depending on skills, qualities and experience.
