Band 8A Site Lead Biomedical Scientist
We are looking for a Site Lead Biomedical Scientist for the Blood Sciences/Transfusion Department with a desire to work as part of one of the largest NHS led Pathology Services in the South of England.
Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services was created in 2016 with the incorporation of Royal Berkshire Hospital and Surrey Pathology Services. We operate over 5 hospital sites, with Frimley Park Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital acting as the “Hub” laboratories for Blood Sciences.
We cover a large area of the South of England, spanning 5 counties and a population of circa 2 million people. The Royal Berkshire Rapid Response laboratory provides in-patient and outpatient services to The Royal Berkshire Hospital and surrounding community hospitals.
The post requires a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated person to become the Site Lead BMS within the Blood Science/Transfusion Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be expected to organise and manage all aspects of the routine and specialised services, delivered by the Blood Sciences/Transfusion Department.
The role will involve leading a large team of Specialist BMSs, Trainee BMSs, and support staff. Your role will also include close peer collaboration within the network environment. A high level of influence and persuasion skills will be required.
You will oversee the work in a modern well equipped laboratory carrying out a range of routine and specialist Blood Sciences/Transfusion techniques. A minimum of 5 years’ experience post HCPC registration, working as a BMS in Blood Transfusion is essential and also have 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role in Blood Transfusion department.
You will be a Fellow or Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science and have an MSc or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences or relevant subject, and a management or leadership qualification. Chartered Scientist status would be desired.
Our laboratory is fully accredited with ISO15189, MHRA, and IBMS training status.
On occasion you may be required to work across sites to maintain quality, training and service requirements.
