Our work is balanced by our strong sense of purpose, values and behaviours and an unwavering commitment to a 'one NOC' approach.About the roleThe SCSS works as part of the Research Ship Management (RSM) team within NOC's National Marine Faculties (NMF) Division and is responsible for ensuring the cyber security of all ship and National Marine Equipment Pool (NMEP) related hardware, software, networks and information technology facilities.Initially, the SCSS will have responsibility for the final revision and implementation of NOC's Ship Cyber Security Plan (Maritime and Coastguard Agency compliance required Dec 2021). Subsequently, the SCSS will focus on ensuring cyber security related issues are handled in a timely manner and the ship Safety Management System (Cyber Security Section) is well reviewed and updated as appropriate. The SCSS has no direct or indirect reports, is experienced in cyber security and would be expected to support and mentor ship's crew and staff across NMF to ensure a cyber secure working environment onboard and ashore.About youYou will implement cyber security strategies and controls, evaluate security products and cyber security technical support to NMF. We are looking for someone with a recognised and relevant qualification: Computer Science and/or Business Computing and/or equivalent experience, preferably in the field of operational cyber security. Cyber security related industry certification (ITIL certification a bonus) and experience in the marine sector will be an advantage. Experience in other IT fields (with demonstratable experience ) would be desirable, including networking, visualisation and cloud services together with Linux and Windows environments in a cyber security context.Preferably, you should have experience in an operational cyber security. We are looking for someone comfortable working independently, ideally with previous experience in project work / management roles.Why the NOC?The position would be based either at NOC Southampton or NOC Liverpool, both well connected by public transport with cycle parking available in addition to onsite car-parking. Remote working arrangements with a requirement to travel to Southampton on a regular basis would also be considered for the right applicant.
