Shift Team Leader

Due to continued success and growth, I am recruiting for a Shift Team Leader in Bury. This is a full time, permanent position for one of UK's leading renewable energy, recycling and waste management companies, working on a day and night shift pattern. The ideal candidate will have management or supervisory experience and will hold an IOSH.

Job Purpose

  • To supervise the effective operation of the Material Recycling Facility (MRF) and to ensure the quality of the products in accordance with statutory legislation and company policies in a safe, cost effective and timely manner
  • To lead your team and participate in the effective and safe running of all site operations
  • Ensure compliance with all Company IMS work practices as directed
  • Operate in accordance with Company Health and Safety procedures at all times
  • Actively seek efficiency/optimisation opportunities.
  • Assist with the general operations of the recycling operation as required or directed by the production Controller.
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleagues to ensure effective communication across the site. You will be required to be totally flexible and carry out other duties identified from time to time ensuring site objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities

  • To ensure the MRF is safely operated with suitably-trained staff
  • To ensure the plant is maintained and repaired to agreed Company and legislative standards and levels of performance including plant preventative maintenance and efficient housekeeping
  • To ensure compliance with all Company EMS work practices
  • Keep the workplace tidy and free from debris.
  • Supervision and operation of fixed and mobile plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner.
  • Achievement of quality and throughput targets to meet Company objectives including constant adherence to the Defra MRF Code of Practice.
  • Administration and line management of shift teams and recycling operatives in line with company objectives including shift rotas and provision of temporary labour arrangements
  • Ensuring operators' maintenance of site plant is carried out in accordance with manufacturers' and Company instructions and that any defects are reported via the approved system.
  • Ensure that all shift statistics are reported in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all fixed plant and keep documentation.

  • Provide a safe working environment ensuring that health and safety standards are constantly met, that all Company procedures and safe systems of work are adhered to and all incidents, accidents and near misses are reported on BMS
  • Maintain a regular physical presence in the production area to ensure high standards are met and any shortfalls in standards are spotted and acted upon immediately
  • Regularly challenge, review and update internal Risk Assessments and Safe Operating Procedures
  • Assist in the training and development of staff
  • Assist with site audits
  • Carry out other tasks within your operational abilities and levels of authority or for which you have received appropriate training, as and when required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

Understanding of a manufacturing/ process plant operation

Basic engineering/maintenance knowledge

Good understanding of the English language, both written and spoken (for documentary purposes)

General knowledge of process operation and control

General knowledge of quality systems and quality control

Good communication skills to all levels of the business
