Shift Manager required in Consett, County Durham, near Newcastle. 4-on 4-off 12 hour shifts.

Multi-site aerospace manufacturer, producing structural components for aircraft, with customers to include Airbus and Gulf-Stream. Their CNC machining, fabrication and treatment capabilities provide a ‘one stop shop’ to make components from design through to end product.

Seeking an experienced degree qualified (or equivalent) candidate, looking to take on continuous improvement Shift Management responsibilities, to enhance the company productivity and profitability.

The main purpose is to support the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, associated systems and procedures to ensure sustainability of the site measured on quality, efficiency and volume targets.

Part of a team, working 12-hour shifts providing leadership and direction to supervisors, with overall responsibility for up to 70 people on the shift.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Graduate/HND or equivalent Supervisory qualifications
  • Six Sigma Black Belt - preferable
  • Able to manage and motivate the team within a precision engineering / component manufacturing industry
  • Self-motivated and confident when taking responsibility for all areas of work
  • Proven track record of achievement within a manufacturing environment, preferably within fabrication and/or machining (automotive or aerospace).

  • To develop a culture of continuous improvement
  • Challenge current practices and processes in order to make improvements
  • Use problem solving techniques to resolve issues and implement improvements
  • Liaise with engineering on Plant quality, trouble shooting, maintenance, and improvements
  • Daily housekeeping walk through and corrective measures activated
  • Internal area focus on Safety, productivity and quality via good teamwork.
