Smart DCC (a licensed entity owned by Capita Plc) is the programme and service integrator working on behalf of the energy industry to establish and operate the data and communications infrastructure that will enable all UK homes to have a smart meter by 2020.

The Smart Data and Communications Company Ltd (Smart DCC) is delivering a once-in-a-generation programme to build a smart metering network for Great Britain.

The Testing Services team is responsible for managing customers testing activities as they integrate their devices and systems with the central DCC systems in support of their rollout plans following government 2020 direction.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible of customers undertaking End to End testing

  • Coordination and direction of the service providers who are supporting End to End testing to provide a responsive and quality service to the service users

  • Act as expert advisor on End to End testing of the DCC solution internally within the DCC.

  • Support to the identification, and resolution of test issues

  • Production of routine and ad-hoc reports on the progress of End to End testing.

  • Act as primary contact for driving testing progress and issue resolution for assigned customers undertaking End to End testing in either the DCC Test Laboratories or their own Remote Test Laboratories.

  • Managing effectively the infrastructure related to the particular customers and/or actively engaged in the work performed by other organisations within DCC in support of customer activities

  • Experience of testing of components of the smart metering solution or a similarly complex communications enabled system

Your experience will Include:

  • Customer management - Strong stakeholder management and hands on in driving and resolving issues related to customers

  • Experience in managing or leading test teams - demonstrates a clear understanding of test artefacts, test execution, test reporting and test issue resolution

  • Strong communications skills - written & verbal - with an ability to explain complex technical requirements, how these relate to individual tests and can be demonstrated

  • Approachable, with strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to deliver a good customer service to service users - experienced and capable in addressing business through telephone conference calls

  • Ability to manage several service users at once and to prioritise requests for support

  • A skilled user of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Skills and Experiences Desirable

  • Knowledge of the GB smart metering solution and user landscape would be advantageous

  • Experience of working with and supporting a diverse and demanding group of external customers

  • Keenness and ability to identify and propose process improvements and find alternative solutions to issues faced by the testing team

  • Recognising the varied nature and loading of the work, the individual should be comfortable working within a challenging and dynamic environment
