What do our Senior Support Workers do?
Sheringham House is a service for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, mental health, autism spectrum conditions and varying degrees of cognitive, physical, behavioural and emotional difficulties. This service offers a range of different activities that focus on increasing the independence of the individual.
Staff assist people in developing independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting and meal planning. People are also supported to use the house’s onsite garden and vegetable patch. Other activities individuals are able to participate in include baking, swimming, hydrotherapy, reflexology, arts and crafts, day centre activities, entertainers, theatre trips, and public transport days.
As a Lead Support Worker you will be expected to lead shifts and assist with coaching and inducting of new staff to the service. You will also be required to participate in the on call rota. You will write daily reports on activities, as well as devising and updating care plans and undertaking risk assessments for the people we support.
Our services operate 24/7, so you will work in shifts (as allocated by your manager). This means you may need to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You may also be required to undertake sleep-in shifts on a rota basis.
What experience do you need?
An NVQ/Diploma L2 or 3 in Health and Social Care is required, and experience supporting adults with learning disabilities would be a strong advantage.
You’ll need to have great communication skills and be comfortable making decisions. A basic level of English and Math is also required.
Above all you need to be kind, caring and ready to work as a team to ensure that our services are comfortable, happy, fulfilling and safe places to live
