Senior Shop Floor Engineering Technician

Established since 1956 and based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, our Client are High Quality Precision Gear Manufacturers serving both the UK and Worldwide markets.

They provide complex, top quality precision gears for the Aerospace, Motor Sport & Automotive, Medical, Marine, MOD & Defence, Oil, Gas & Petrochemical, Pump Gears, Food and Commercial Industry Sectors. They manufacture custom gears on a supply, complete or gear cut basis to Customer drawings or sample specifications. They work closely with their Clients, from Concept to Product Realisation, Technical Support to full Gear Prototype and Development.

Their core capabilities include: CNC Turning, CNC Milling, CNC Grinding, CNC Gear Shaping, CNC Helical Gear Shaping, CNC Hobbing, CNC Gear Grinding Bevel Gears, Gear Inspection and Gear Design Assistance. They offer the widest possible range of gear cutting.

They now require a Senior Shop Floor Engineering Technician to work alongside an established engineering team and to be part of this dynamic and expanding Engineering Company. The ideal Candidate will be required to support all aspects of Manufacturing.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop the manufacturing methods in conjunction with the engineering team to include processes, tooling, programming, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality control and safety standards to efficiently deliver manufactured items
  • Drive process improvements on the shop floor to ensure the most efficient, cost effective working methods are employed and implemented
  • Provide technical support to all manufacturing areas to eliminate waste and maximise spindle up time
  • Ensure processes are developed to produce product that meet customer requirements
  • Ensure all processes meet quality, cost and delivery targets
  • Ensure the design of production processes and facility layouts to maximise efficiency and reduce set up times
  • Ensure equipment suppliers and provide all contractual deliverables on time and to budget
  • Provide accurate reporting to senior management
  • Assist in Identification, specification and presentation of business cases for new equipment and processes
  • Support the implementation of training procedures and training programs to ensure effective use of all new processes and equipment

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years commercial Edgecam experience
  • Experience in managing a team of 40 plus machine operators
  • Must have a high level of practical experience in CNC machining methods
  • LEAN Six Sigma, competencies in lean manufacturing processes, systems and associated tools
  • Ability to question, challenge and make decisions based on data and facts
  • Practical problem solving
  • Able to read, understand and interpret engineering information
  • Robust, technical approach to supplier & Staff management
  • Effective communicator at all levels both verbal and written
  • IT literate - Effective use of Microsoft Office software; Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Be able to work on their own initiative
  • Work as part of the management team to achieve business objectives
  • A positive "can do" attitude
  • Hands on approach when required
  • Gears manufacturing experience beneficial

Additional Information:

  • Hours: 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, 8.00am - 3.30pm Fridays
  • Holidays: 20 days + Bank Holidays (increasing with years of service)
  • Full-time
