In 2013, Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world-class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is a department of Cambridge University. It has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.
We are seeking to employ 2 Senior Research Grants Administrators (1 Full-time, 1 Part-time 0.4 FTE) whom will join the CRUK Cambridge Institute's Grants Team and play an active role in assisting Group Leaders to apply for grant funding as well as managing a broad and varied portfolio of research grants (currently £33 million income per annum).
The Institute Grants Team performs a unique function within the University by combining the departmental grants application and management responsibilities with functions traditionally the responsibility of the Research Operations Office (ROO). The post holders will therefore need to develop a close working relationship with the Clinical School Research Office to develop knowledge and understanding of the University's policies and procedures to ensure that comprehensive and consistent support is being provided.
Key duties include:
-Providing specialist support and guidance to Group Leaders and Research staff wishing to submit proposals for research funding.
-Assisting Group Leaders to cost and price projects.
-Activate new awards on the University Financial system.
-Assisting the Group Leaders in the financial management of their Research Grant budgets
-Producing invoices, interim and final financial statements both in sterling and foreign currencies.
The successful candidates will have ability to work quickly and accurately when under pressure and have experience of working to tight deadlines. They will be able to interpret and fulfil precise requirements with attention to detail. Experience of working in a financial environment, together with a customer service background, is essential, as well as a proven ability to resolve problems independently. Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively at all levels is essential. Knowledge of supporting and managing applications for research funding and post award support is highly desirable.
