Senior Publishing Editor - maternity cover

Working closely with Editors, Editorial Board Members and in-house staff, the post holder will formulate strategies and development plans and devise and implement tactics to deliver these strategic aims. The Senior Publishing Editor is responsible for the publishing performance of multiple journals. The role also has line management responsibility which includes contributing to increased profits through the successful implementation of publishing strategies and delivering the very best scientific content with a commitment to ensuring the highest academic standards are met. The role is responsible for creating titles that are highly cited and renowned for the quality of their content. Overall, the vision is to make each journal the market leader in its field in order to maximise revenues.

The day-to-day accountabilities of the Senior Publishing Editor include but are not restricted to:

  • Taking a lead on all aspects of a prestigious title and becoming the face of the publication
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to achieve defined aims
  • Ensuring high impact and visibility for the journal to achieve a market leading position
  • Working closely with marketing colleagues to ensure that the correct campaigns are instigated to achieve full market coverage

Applicants must be educated to degree level, in a scientific subject and have some solid experience working in an STM publishing environment. You will need to demonstrate commercial awareness, a thorough knowledge of the publishing process and a good understanding of the publishing needs and expectations of the research scientist. Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills are essential as is the ability to influence. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, confident and outgoing with the talent to work across all levels.

The role is to cover maternity leave for a period of one year and ideally the successful candidate will be available to start in February 2018.
