Our major global client is recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to be based at their Derby offices. The role will lead the delivery of a portfolio of projects delivering complex engineering / technical systems into the Rail Industry. This portfolio will be comprised of internal projects for the delivery of our systems to customers outside of the UK and external projects for all UK customers.
The role will be responsible for Client Relationship Management with key clients and will support sales and business development activities in order to identify and secure opportunities for deploying the new technology. The role will have line management responsibilities for Project Managers who will in turn be responsible for delivering a portfolio of projects.
Senior Project Manager role responsibilities
*Act as functional line management to a team of Project Managers in order to safely deliver a wide portfolio projects to the contractual specifications, meeting the project objectives within the agreed timescales and budget.
*Implement the key project delivery processes such as change management, risk management, schedule management, contract management (including contract variations) and configuration management.
*Implement a reliable process for timely project portfolio reporting including forecasts on progress and cost.
*Provide key data to the heads of departments for resource planning.
*Support business development and sales. This shall include the development of project specific execution strategies designed to meet the Clients needs.
*Responsible for Client Relationship Management - includes effective communication and establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship.
*Interface with the design, sales and project teams based overseas.
*Work with the Commercial Project Manager and Legal in the UK and overseas to manage and control the commercial aspects of the contract
*Act as a safety leader for the group ensure safe delivery at all times through the implementation of effective Safety and Environmental management of the project ensuring that each of the project delivery functions has systems in place to cover their safety responsibilities.
*Ensure the implementation of Quality Assurance throughout the Project Life-cycle through effective implementation of the SRA Quality Assurance process
What do I need to qualify for this job?
*Experience of delivery of engineering projects through the full project life cycle. Rail would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite
*Experience of developing and implementing innovative project execution strategies
*Proven ability to lead and drive a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural project teams, ensuring delivery of all contractual outputs to cost and to plan
*Experience of preparing proposals, tenders and contract negotiations
*Experience of business development, sales and Client Relationship Management
*Excellent communication and presentation skills - ability to deliver key messages efficiently and effectively, tailoring the approach to the audience as appropriate, in order to promote action
*Project Management skills - strong understanding of the hard and soft aspects of programme management.
*Possess high degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to build consensus
*Commercial awareness and aptitude - able to contribute to commercial and contractual issues, drawing upon past experience with railway / engineering contracts
*Exposure to a highly regulated engineering industry
*Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, possibly supported by a second degree in a management discipline
