Purpose of Role

The Carillion Rail business is seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Power & Distribution (P&D) based out of Derby, you will play a key role in the construction delivery of the Midland Main Line Programme delivering high profile electrification projects, including HV & LV Power transmission & distribution, from London to Corby.

The role will see you interpreting specifications, drawings, standards and regulations relating to Electrical Infrastructure and power equipment (Substations), as well as liaising with Design teams to ensure technical specifications are submitted and issued to respective teams and subcontractors. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, to budget, and to the required quality.

The successful candidate will be Degree qualified in a relevant Electrical/Power skill set, the role would suit an established Power Project Engineer with knowledge of Rail Infrastructure P&D Design principles.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Work with Client, suppliers, subcontractors and other contractors to ensure efficient management of Engineering delivery output as per programme

  • Work collaboratively with Client

  • Maintain strong and appropriate supplier relationships

  • Maintain good relations with local communities

  • Ensure the clients deliverables are issued in a timely manner

  • Responsibility to ensure that everyone on site are working in accord with Carillion’s ‘Target Zero’ Health & Safety Strategy

  • To check and chase up engineering deliverables are being delivered in accordance with programme

  • Attendance at meeting, taking minutes and articulating issues.

  • Prepare estimates

  • Review and check programme / provide updates

  • Assisting with reviews of internal and external HV and LV designs

  • commercial and technical Risk review

  • Attend Internal Construction meetings

  • Attend IDC/IDR meetings

  • Plan on site surveys with Design partners

  • Plan and manage site construction works

  • Input into the construction programme for LV and HV works

  • Liaise with interfacing projects

  • Liaise with TOCs regarding station works

  • Prepare site documentation and manage its control.

  • Assist with Access and possession planning activities

  • Prepare site safety documentation ie CPP, Work Package Plans, Task Briefs.

  • Archive all historic site and construction documentation

  • Produce costings for HV and LV construction works.

  • Assist project team with HV and LV issues

  • Maintain budget control of works, reporting monthly

  • Produce progress reports

  • Mentor Engineering Graduates
