Senior PI Underwriter

As a Senior Professional Indemnity Underwriter you will lead and manage the operational Professional Indemnity underwriting activity within the region, effectively developing key client relationships building technical excellence to deliver professional indemnity income and profit targets.



You will be a highly experienced Professional Indemnity Underwriter with the ability to negotiate face to face with our intermediaries; you will be self-motivated, and comfortable managing your own work load. A major part of the job will be conducting offsite surgeries on Broker panels and a tool of trade car is provided as part of the package.




What will I be doing

  • Delivering planned underwriting results for designated accounts through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends and improvement plans implemented to improve profitability.

  • Managing underwriting relationships with key brokers from designated accounts to deliver profitable growth.

  • Coaching, training and developing Underwriters to continually improve their technical and trading capability.

  • Leading professional indemnity underwriting relationships with key customers in region to deliver profitable growth.

  • Develop and deliver new business opportunities through strategic, national and distribution partners by building close working relationships.

  • Significantly raise AXA’s profile amongst strategic, national and distribution partners to ensure that the company is seen as a key player in the professional indemnity market.

  • Lead the professional indemnity decision making for new and current deals within branch to ensure delivery of combined operating ratio requirements.

  • Actively managing and reviewing underwriting standards and licences within the team ensuring effective management and deployment of empowerment.

  • Supporting Trading Team Managers to effectively manage the service provided to brokers and input to the performance management of Underwriters.

What will I need?

  • Progress towards ACII qualification desirable or equivalent experience.

  • Degree level or other equivalent qualification preferred.

  • Proven experience to develop excellent customer relationships with senior individuals.

  • Strong influencing, negotiation and business skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Pragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills.

  • Sound understanding of insurance market and specifically PI

  • Experience of working in teams and successful record of delivering results.

  • Excellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long term relationships both internal & external.

  • Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios within a professional indemnity environment.

  • Strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a professional indemnity environment.
