Barnett Waddingham has continued to grow and over the last 12 months has won considerable new business from larger clients who have more complex investment schemes. We are therefore now looking to appoint a Senior Pension Fund Accountant to join our team and support this growth. This position will ideally be based in Cheltenham but we will also consider our Amersham, Leeds, Liverpool or Glasgow offices.

We will need the successful candidate to hit the ground running so they will ideally be qualified or soon to be qualified (ACA, ACCA or ACMA) with experience gained within pension fund accounting or audit. You might be working within professional practice, for a third party administrator or within a pension scheme.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and reconciliation of accounting records
  • Reconciliation of investment and AVC funds
  • Preparation of year end accounts for a portfolio of clients ensuring that legislative timescales and client requirements are met
  • Dealing with auditors through the audit process, liaison with clients and third parties as required
  • Maintain effective client relationships with trustees and auditors
  • Preparation of statutory pension scheme trustee reports and other accompanying information
  • Provision of financial management information for clients
  • Attend audit planning and completion meetings, when required
  • Reporting and advice as required for Pension Administration teams and clients
  • Check work of other team members, ensuring accuracy and compliance with procedures and legislation including the Statement of Recommended Practice
  • Ensure that client and auditor concerns or complaints are raised with the reporting Partner and dealt with immediately
  • Project based or committee work, as agreed from time to time
  • Carry out activities in line with agreed service levels
  • Ensure that procedures, practices and systems are maintained and developed to support the accounts services and comply with Barnett Waddingham’s AAF requirements and Business Management System
  • Support effective team working, be willing to ask others for support and share knowledge to assist with the development of colleagues through coaching and training

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Accountant - ACA, ACCA or ACMA or actively studying and nearly qualified
  • A-Levels at Grade C or above are essential
  • Prior experience / understanding of pension fund accounting
  • Strong technical skills
  • Strong communication skills
