The Nutrition Support Team works across East Lancashire to prevent and treat malnutrition in adults and manages prescriptions for oral nutritional products for adult patients on behalf of GP Practices.

The team consists of a two Dietitians, a nutrition support assistant and team administrator as well as this vacant post.

The team operates Monday to Friday and there can be a degree of flexibility over working hours (Core 9-3.30pm). Presently there is no evening or bank holiday working. The team is currently based at Walshaw House in Nelson but this will be changing in early 2021 to another location (yet to be decided). The team support agile working.

The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of nutrition optimisation initiatives and provision of nutrition support in primary care to meet the care needs and nutritional status of the population. On a day to day basis this includes processing prescriptions for oral nutritional supplements, identifying patients where continuation of their oral nutritional supplementation is not required, who could switch their prescription to the contract choice or who no longer meet local guidelines. The post holder will lead on the planning, organisation and delivery of formal and informal training on Food First and MUST to care homes, patients and carer groups and support the dietitians in delivering this to other health care professionals and medical staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced assistant to work within the team. The ideal candidate will have experience of communicating nutrition messages to patients, delivering training in nutrition support, awareness of nutrition products and how they are prescribed along with the use of electronic patient records. We recognise that our team role is unique and therefore will offer support to the successful candidate to meet all the competencies required for the post.

Previous experience, working in a Dietetic department, GP practice, chemist or healthcare setting would be an advantage but candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills and suitable expertise will be considered.
