Purpose of the Role

This is a key infrastructure position, based at our head office in Bicester (but with travel to other depot’s in the group expected), where you will be responsible for all third line technical support, network and server management, plus any other IT related duties.

You will ideally possess industry recognised technical qualifications primarily from Microsoft, VMware and Cisco, however other relevant enterprise experience may be considered. You will be joining the business at a time of great change and need to be disciplined in ITIL 3 methodologies including Service, change and continuity management.

With the gravitas and experience gained from working in a similar role, you will be expected to work under guidance and using your own initiative, pro-actively maintaining a multi-site Microsoft based estate. You will also be experienced in the technical management of small IT projects, so project management skills are desirable.

Key Responsibilities

The Individual will be responsible for supporting:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 / 2012 R2, Windows 7 / 8 / 10
  • Active Directory / MS Exchange 2010/13/
  • Microsoft RDS or similar Remote desktop solutions (VDI)
  • Microsoft Office suites (2013/16)
  • Microsoft Office 365 management
  • Email & Web security products, e.g. Mimecast / MessageLabs, Websense
  • VMware 5.5 – 6.* hands on experience
  • VMware Site Recovery Manager
  • EMC Recover Point
  • Networking knowledge covering LAN/WAN/VLAN & wireless technologies
  • Dell Server and SAN Hardware
  • Cisco UCS servers
  • On premise / Cloud backup solutions (Backup Exec / Datto)
  • MSSQL 2008 / 2012 / 2014 and Clustering experience
  • Dell Desktops, Notebooks & thin client hardware
  • HP & Cisco Switch and router technology
  • WatchGuard, Cisco , Fortinet Firewall and Secure Remote Access appliances
  • Avaya telephony / SIP / VOIP / Cloud PBX / Call Centre
  • Video Conferencing / SFB

Key Attributes

  • Ideally ITIL 3 foundation qualified
  • Good knowledge of GPO deployment and configuration
  • WDS services and WSUS / SCCM knowledge
  • Strong problem solving abilities and excellent communication, customer handling and inter-personal skills
  • Strong planning, organising and prioritising abilities. Target focused, proactive and keen to spot opportunities to refine and improve processes and service
  • Must be able to deal direct with clients in a friendly and highly confident manner demonstrating excellent internal and external customer communication skills
  • Demonstrate expertise in all activities associated with providing end user PC support and problem resolution on complex and difficult PC hardware and software issues
  • Is self-starting, analytical, results and solutions-driven
  • Be passionate about customers and service, with a strong will to make a difference
  • The ability to work in a dynamic environment, prioritising and multi-tasking effectively working on own initiative
  • Have the necessary ‘soft skills’ and knowledge of appropriate business language with the ability to present complex ideas effectively to non IT audiences
  • Calm and able to focus when in a pressure situation
