A new role with a 'Times Top 100 Company to work for' now recruiting for a Senior Mortgage Underwriter

The Senior Mortgage Underwriters will report to the Underwriting Team Manager and will be responsible for providing support and development to Mortgage Underwriters and the Long Term Lending colleagues whilst ensuring the timely processing of all new mortgage applications for as per the company's lending policy and file requirements

Being a role model for the company's values and culture, taking ownership and responsibility for mortgage applications to deliver high quality lending decisions personally and deliver a great experience to our brokers and customers is important

The role is exciting and varied with progression opportunities and this role will focus on being an underwriting expert within the team whilst providing expert advice and guidance to less experienced members of the team and supporting the Team Leader in ensuring that team members are coached and developed, in line with their performance objectives

The ideal candidate will support the department by focusing on the day to day operations within Mortgage Processing and utilising your mandate to decision cases within both your own and your team’s workload

The ideal candidate will also assist in performing assessment of risk controls within the area as required, making appropriate recommendations and feeding into action plans as necessary also being able to motivate individuals, peers and other colleagues within Long Term Lending through effective communication, passion, innovation and desire to deliver excellent service.

Key Skills:

• Must have previous mortgage underwriting experience and held a lending mandate

• Experience of mentoring and developing less experienced team members

• Detailed understanding of the mortgage process from application to completion

• Good understanding of the general principles of the law relating to mortgage compliance, risk management and detailed understanding of the mortgage process from application to completion

• Strong analytical skills that aid effective decision making and good problem solving skills

• An ability to negotiate and liaise with brokers to ensure the correct level of risk/quality of application

• Previous experience of involvement in managing change

• Positive, resilient, confident and ability to engage and form strong relationships with both team members and key stakeholders

As a expectation, excellent oral and written communication skills and having the ability to deal with any confidential issues, in a professional manner is important to this role. GCSE mathematics and English Grade A – C or equivalent are an essential requirement for the role.

This role would provide a competitive basic salary of up to £32,000 plus benefits including 25 days holiday, Life Assurance of up to 3 times basic salary and a performance related bonus up to 20% of the salary based upon achieving company budgets and targets.

Monday–Friday working hours with a full time permanent opportunity available and no evening or weekend working.
