Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Marine Operations Department, based at the Port of Great Yarmouth.
Role Purpose: To lead the delivery of the Port’s Marine Operations unit, supporting a 24/7 service delivery. This will include delivery of pilotage services, port control, conservancy and driving marine safety within the Port in line with the Port Marine Safety Code and the Port Authority’s statutory powers and obligations. Lead marine revenue activity and support new business opportunities for the Port from a range of vessel types and customers.
This role will include the following responsibilities:
-Lead the Port’s marine operations and marine services consistently across the department of approx. 17 marine staff, supporting all requirements as directed by the Port Director and Group Harbour Master
-Ensure the delivery of Marine safety objectives in line with Peel Ports Group strategy and Port Marine Safety Code
-Lead the enforcement of statutory powers of the Harbour Authority on behalf of the Group Harbour Master
-Develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including internal departments, port user groups and statutory bodies such as MAIB, MCA and HSE.
-Drive continuous safety and operational improvement initiatives, ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with agreed quality standards and regulations
-Actively promote Peel Ports Group commercially and support the Port Director in new business opportunities and revenue targets
Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:
-Proven experience in a marine operations management role, ideally within port, harbour authority, pilotage, vessel or offshore operations
-Seagoing qualifications as a Master Mariner or port experience as harbour master/assistant/deputy or pilot would be beneficial
-Previous experience of delivering major change/project initiatives into industrialised operations
-Good commercial acumen, with the ability to highlight opportunities and manage budgets
-Prepared to deliver improved productivity and financial performance initiatives into industrialised operations
-Ability to handle and prioritise multiple tasks, projects and change in a fast moving, challenging operational environment
-Must live within reasonable distance from the port or ability to relocate. The role will involve on-call duties on a roster to respond to port marine incidents and operational demands
-A full, valid Driving Licence
