Senior Linux Engineer - Senior Unix Engineer - Leeds, West Yorkshire

Senior Linux Engineer, Senior Unix Engineer sought by market leader at their offices in Central Leeds. Please note travel to client & customer site will be expected as part of this role.

Key technical skills:

-Server hardware / blade technology

-Storage hardware (SAN/NAS)

-Network devices/appliances (firewalls, switches, routers, content switches, etc.)

WAN/LAN technologies

-UNIX (Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, etc.)

-Microsoft Operating Systems

-Virtualisation technologies (VMware Xen, KVM, etc.)

-Database technology (MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.)

-Messaging systems

-Security (network security, authentication, anti-malware, etc.)

-Knowledge of virtualisation platforms and cloud orchestration technologies such as VSphere, vDirector, Xenserver, Xen, Cloudstack and Openstack


In addition to the essential skills listed above, experience of one or more of the following competencies is desirable:

-Automation and scripting skills including use of a scripting language such as Python or Ruby, proficiency with shell scripting (e.g. BASH)

-Exposure to continuous integration and build tools

-Knowledge of platform and application automated deployment technologies (e.g. Cobbler, Puppet, Chef, Tivoli Provisioning Manager, Foreman)

-Experience of application servers such as WebSphere, WebLogic or JBOSS

-Exposure to or knowledge of web security, e.g. OWASP

-Exposure to ITIL

The role:

The successful Linux Engineer will work primarily in a project context with responsibility for the provision, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of the system hardware, software and related infrastructure.

The SA ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to the project/organisational standards and will assist the project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases.
