- You’ll help to build the best possible solutions for public and private cloud environments and engineer infrastructure technology to comply with security, resilience, sustainability, and operational requirements with observability and guardrails built in

What you'll do
As a Senior FinOps Engineer, you’ll contribute to, and manage the selection, creation and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers, strategic targets, and architecture outcomes, along with developing products using modern engineering practices and tools.
We’ll look to you to collaborate with Product Owners to develop product roadmaps and manage the lifecycle of the team's products. As such, you’ll support engineered products to respond to customer feedback and new feature requests, resolve production issues, and help customers consume our products.
Working with the Engineering and Control teams, you’ll develop and implement financial governance rules on the organisation cloud estate, and you’ll work with key vendors in the delivery of the infrastructure services and technology for the product. You’ll also build an awareness of design thinking tools and techniques with other teams in order to improve your cloud efficiencies.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and analysing cloud architectures and usage patterns and identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising performance or availability
- Providing guidance and support to stakeholders on cost optimisation strategies and best practices
- Taking ownership of regular cost optimisation forums with key stakeholders to maximise business value via the execution of cost-efficiency workstreams
- Contributing as a member of the Cloud FinOps team, identifying cost optimisation opportunities including but not limited to rightsizing, reservations, savings plans, wastage removal, and technology upgrades
- Implementing cost reduction measures such as reserved instances, spot instances, and scaling policies
- Supporting labelling and tagging strategies to ensure costs are allocated to appropriate services and mature the Cloud FinOps practice via the automation of existing manual FinOps processes and tasks
The skills you'll need
To thrive in this role, you’ll have experience in software development or automation scripting such as Python or Shell, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle. You’ll also have experience in utilising modern cloud infrastructure as code via tooling.
We’ll expect you to bring a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets with the ability to create the vision for the Release Train, feature team, platform, and domain.
Ideally, you’ll have experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP in a large enterprise environment and experience with containerised workloads. An Azure Solution Architect or GCP Professional Cloud Architect certificate would be desirable, along with working experience in cloud financial management, cost optimisation role, and certification as a FinOps practitioner. .
Furthermore, you’ll need:
- A relevant public cloud certification such as AWS Solution Architect
- Experience with the development of CI/CD pipelines using modern tooling
- Experience in software testing practices and tools and using observability tools and techniques as well as the ability to use data, information, and user sentiment to continuously improve solutions
- Proven expertise in public cloud cost management and optimisation
- Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases and the ability to query, analyse, and summarise data efficiently and accurately
- Strong collaborative communication skills for articulating technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
- Working experience in cloud financial management, cost optimisation, or as a certified FinOps practitioner
