Senior Engineer (Design)

Our client is a specialist manufacturing business with a fantastic reputation as a business and as an employer.

The Senior Engineer role is an integral part of the engineering team and plays a key role in the co-ordination and delivery of bespoke product designs for non-standard applications based on the standard product range and design engineering support to a number of other departments including, Sales, Application Engineering and Manufacturing. The role requires application of design engineering and computer aided design (CAD) skills, interpretation of specifications, and team management in order to deliver solutions to time sensitive customer needs.

Role:

• Product design providing mechanically biased engineering solutions for customer applications including appropriate drawings, CAD model and BOM creation as well as checking work of others ensuring output is in line with internal and external standards.
• Modification of standard designs for non-standard equipment.
• Creation of new/special bills of materials to aid administration and purchasing functions.
• Support with conceptual design of complex design solution supporting product development and complex solutions
• Ad hoc engineering support and department organisational tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all solutions provided to customers meet the required specifications.
• Co-ordinating multi-skilled teams to ensure optimum efficiency and use of labour.
• Support training needs of team as required.
• Ensure procedures are maintained, upgraded and adhered to.
• Daily liaison with internal and external customers (including end users, sales engineers, and distributors from the UK and overseas)
• Daily liaison with workshops and inspection departments on engineering issues for both standard and special seals; solving problems and agreeing concessions.
• Where applicable, participate in appraisals of junior colleagues in conjunction with the Engineering manager.
• Guide and mentor junior colleagues.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• Qualified to a minimum of HNC/Degree in an engineering related discipline or equivalent in experience
• Previous experience within a mechanical design or applications engineering discipline.
