Job Title - Senior Construction Manager

Location - York, West Offices (YO1 6JT)

Rates - £395.43 LTD/Umbrella OR £350.10 PAYE

In Scope of IR35

About the role / project:

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, for this contract you will be working to deliver the Route Delivery for East Coast Mainline & Enhancements team portfolio projects

Leading on the construction management of these portfolio projects, as a senior manager the primary focus will be people and process management; including weekly working reviews, Construction Place Plan (CPP) reviews and general management of the construction management team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrable experience and success of the construction management of project works.

  • Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team of personnel.

  • Relevant technical experience for the specialist area of construction management being undertaken.

  • While a broad range of construction and railway experience is desirable, the role is specific to the track discipline and extensive track experience, knowledge and competencies will be required.

  • Thorough understanding of the CDM Regulations and health & safety legislation, regulations and industry practices.

  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of the implementation of health, safety, environmental and quality management strategies.

  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of contract types, conditions and successful management processes.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Apply a 'continuous improvement' approach to construction management. Identify areas to be targeted for improvement and implement the changes necessary to deliver these improvements.

Your experience will include:

  • You will be a Senior Construction manager with good working knowledge of construction management and practices in a railway environment

  • Knowledge of the Network Rail working standards for the planning and management of site works

  • Personnel management skills (direct reports and contractors)

  • Capability to provide an assurance of build quality, programme management and site reporting to the Network Rail project management team

  • Worksite health and safety competency and ability to manage environmental concerns on the railway infrastructure

  • Capability to liaise with project stakeholders, both from within and external to Network Rail, and represent the IP Signalling team from a construction management perspective


  • Membership of a relevant professional body and/or educated to degree level.

  • Hold Sentinel Sponsorship
