Our client is seeking a Senior Commercial Lawyer to provide leadership and management within a specific legal team. This role involves managing the operational delivery of legal services aligned with the Council’s aims and objectives, handling complex legal work, and driving continuous service improvement.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Provide line management, performance oversight, and supervision to Lawyers, Professional Legal Officers, Assistant Professional Officers, and other staff as required.
• Manage and allocate resources necessary for the operational delivery of legal services.
• Handle the most complex, difficult, or high-profile legal work, projects, and programmes within the team.
• Lead the team in achieving service and business goals, ensuring quality and integrity of legal work.
• Collaborate with the Legal Leadership Team and Service Managers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective legal services.
• Provide advice and representation at Court, Committees, Boards, and Panels; manage the team to deliver this effectively.
• Drive continuous service improvement, innovation, and efficiencies within the team and across the Service.
• Recruit, train, and develop team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Recognised legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX) with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
• Extensive technical knowledge in a relevant specialist area, preferably within a public sector environment.
• Proven ability to assess, manage, and mitigate legal risks.
• Excellent communication skills across all mediums, with the ability to implement strategy and deliver change.
• Experience in leading a team of Lawyers, Professional Officers, and Assistant Professional Officers.
• Proficiency in legal case management systems and relevant IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
