We are Ashwoods Electric Motors - an innovative and rapidly-growing cleantech engineering firm based near Exeter and we make electric motors that are smaller, lighter, more efficient and cheaper than comparable incumbent designs. We have recently moved to our brand new, state of the art facility at Chudleigh, with the support of a £1.2M grant from the UK Government.

We are now seeking a Senior Buyer who will play an integral part in managing the purchasing of materials from existing suppliers, as well as sourcing and selecting new suppliers. The main objective for this role will be to reduce costs, improve quality and deliver a lean, efficient supply chain. We are looking for a good all-rounder to professionalise and coordinate a rapidly growing team.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Negotiating the supply parts, materials and components.
  • Fully understand business requirements to ensure an accurate and timely supply from suppliers.

  • Cost down activities relating to reducing BOM costs through strategic sourcing of components and working closely with supporting partners.

  • Supplier review, analysis, negotiation and selection

  • To ensure that all materials are supplied at the lowest possible landed cost, delivered on-time in full and to the highest quality specification.

  • Work closely with colleagues and supply chain partners to source new and alternative components

  • Promote an environment that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions

  • Strong communicator with effective presentation and written communication skills

  • Seek and partner with reliable suppliers and carriers; personally, manage relationships and negotiations with key elements of the supply chain at a senior and strategic level

  • Ensure compliance with import / export, shipping, and other relevant regulations

Desired qualifications, skills and experience

  • Hold or be working towards a full professional qualification in procurement & supply at MCIPS or equivalent.
  • A good understanding of both manufacturing and MRP processes.

  • Experience of sourcing and developing Suppliers of material and components within Asia, in particular India and China.

  • Must have demonstrable experience of achievement within all stages of a manufacturing operation’s Procurement function.

  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level and in an international environment

  • Proven ability to negotiate at all levels

  • Must be able to adapt to change in line with emerging business drivers
  • The ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Extensive experience of product planning and procurement systems.
