Herdley Bank School is a specialist SEN school based in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEMH and complex behaviours.

We are looking for a caring and reliable Teaching Assistant to join our committed team. This role involves supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, often on a 1:1 basis, to help them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 or group support to pupils with SEN, including SEMH needs

  • Assist teaching staff in delivering personalised learning and behaviour support

  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours with positive strategies

  • Support pupils' emotional well-being and social development

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to planning and reviews

  • Collaborate with the wider school team and external professionals

About You:
  • Experience working with children with SEN and challenging behaviours is desirable

  • Patient, calm, and empathetic approach

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support are a plus

  • Willingness to undertake Team Teach or similar behaviour management training (training available)
