SEN Teaching Assistant

Posted 5 February by REED Education Easy Apply Featured Ended
My client is an independent day school which provides specialised teaching for pupils aged 4 to 16 who have a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum. Their latest OFSTED Inspection (April 2012) was judged us as ‘outstanding’ and they have a capacity to teach 30 pupils.

Reed Education SEN division has the pleasure in recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant for an independent day school for pupils with Autism.  This incredible school was set up by parents with children who have a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum as they were finding that the usual teaching methods in schools were not successful for their own children. Their dedicated staff deliver individualised programs of education to pupils aged from Primary to Sixth form.

The school supports and closely follows ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) which refers to interventions that are developed from a branch of science called behaviour analysis. This post comes with a two year in-house autism specific training programme. There is a clear, defined career development path leading to the possibility of funding towards a Master's degree or advanced certification in a relevant subject.

This school offers a calm, serene learning environment for pupils who will benefit from 1:1 assistance, differentiated lessons and a fully adapted setting.

Your working day will be varied. You may be taking pupils swimming, playing games, attending off-site school outings and you will always be following a pre-set daily learning plan as prepared by the Teacher. Some of these pupils will need personal care and Team Teach is offered to all new staff.

Your hours of work are 0845-1715 Monday - Friday (40 weeks over three terms) and following successful completion of a 6 month probation period, promotion to Tutor along with a 3% salary increment will be offered.

This post will be of particular interest to graduates with a degree in Psychology or relevant subject as well as from individuals with experience of supporting pupils with Autism on a 1:1 basis.

Ideally applicants will require their own transport due to the beautiful, rural location of this special school, however the school operates a transfer service from the train station for those who are not drivers.
