A leading, well established Autism Specialist Unit in Wakefield is looking to appoint an autism specialist on a long term contract basis (with potential to extend), to provide essential and life changing support to their pupils with learning difficulties. The successful applicant will have experience within SEND settings or specifically with individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. This is a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives through an understanding and caring approach to education with a specialist focus. The successful applicant will be required to support children with complex needs, both in the classroom and throughout their school day to effectively engage them with their work and learning.

The role will include:
To plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons
Assist children in class to make sure they are on track
Liaise with support staff to ensure smooth running of class
To support the general wellbeing of the students
To monitor and evaluate learners learning
Enable learners to access the curriculum through a variety of techniques
Fully utilise Teaching Assistant with the classroom to support aspects of teaching and behaviour management
Experience with SEND or ASD is essential
To be able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
Have an understanding of children with special needs
Be flexible in approach to education
