Self-Advocacy Supporter
Part time: 12 hours per week, including 2 evenings per month

Salary starting; Band 3, NJC Point 22, £21,496 p.a. (pro rata)

Plus pension & a generous holiday allowance

Funded by West Sussex County Council, our client currently supports 4 self-advocacy groups for people with learning disabilities in West Sussex. They are currently looking for 2 Self-Advocacy Supporters to join their team - one based in the Mid Sussex area to support Mid Sussex Speak Up and one based in the Bognor/ Chichester Area to support Bognor and Chichester Voice. The role of the Self-Advocacy Supporter will be to work alongside people with learning disabilities to run their own self-advocacy group.

The role includes supporting the group to:
- Run monthly group and committee meetings
- Undertake their committee roles, i.e. Secretary or Treasurer
- Work on campaigns/projects that they have planned
- Encourage new members
- Attend external meetings, e.g. Learning Disabilities Partnership Board

Requirements for this role:
- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
- A good understanding of self-advocacy
- An ability to communicate well with people with a learning disability
- An ability to work effectively within group settings
- An ability to work flexible hours, and attend both day and evening meetings
- An ability to travel independently around West Sussex
