This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Analytical Chemist with management experience to join a large life science-based company in the UK in their Drug Research Lab at their High Peak site.


I am currently recruiting for a Section Head to lead my client’s Analytical Chemistry team. As the Section Head you will be leading the analytical and purification chemist teams and supporting all chemistry teams. As well as this you will be providing services to external customers and will be responsible for liaising with said customers. You will be the focal point for the department and so you will be expected to lead by example demonstrating the highest level of professionalism.

Other Duties of the Role:

  • Responsible for the H&S of the analytical chemistry department
  • Manage resources in line with the budget
  • Work alongside business development
  • Provide technical expertise relating to a range of techniques ie HPLC, LCMS, GCMS
  • Provide technical support to the sales and quotations team
  • Liaise with other scientific figures across the Group to provide a bespoke array of services
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement
  • In conjunction with other senior scientific figures actively engage in a programme of continuous improvement to help the organisation meet its stated objectives
  • Create strategies and plans which take into account innovative and new approaches to take the department forward
  • Provide guidance to the team to ensure that the department can provide expertise in the latest techniques
  • Ensure all members of the department are effectively managed against the required competencies of their roles
  • This will be through the use of, for example, training records, regular 1:1 meetings and the setting of clear objectives to help deliver on the company goals

Requirements:

  • Project management and customer interaction experience is essential
  • Experienced line manager and demonstratable commitment to staff development
  • Vast experience in analytical chemistry within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Candidate will have a minimum of a BSc in analytical or chemical discipline
  • Previous experience dealing with budgets for large organisation
