Second in Department - Mathematics required for September 2018 - Thatcham, Berkshire

Second in Department - Mathematics
MPS/UPS + TLR (£6217)
Required for September 2018

Maths is your passion. You've taught for a few years now and you're a strong teacher. You recognise what makes a good lesson and can analyse and reflect on what you can do to make good lessons even better. You enjoy working closely with colleagues to plan an interesting curriculum that reaches every student. But you're ready for the next step and want to make your next move towards running your own department.

We believe the post of Second in Department is a critical one, both in supporting the Head of Department and leading a Key Stage within the Maths team. Maths is undoubtedly a strength of Kennet School, with our department consistently recognised as a beacon of excellence both locally and nationally. If you're ambitious to progress professionally, this could be a perfect stepping stone towards a Head of Department position in the future.

So, what are we looking for? Someone who is passionate about delivering an innovative and interesting Maths curriculum, someone who is confident about sharing their passion and subject knowledge with young people and staff alike and who still recognises why they became a teacher in the first place. We'd like you to be able to offer Maths at KS5, and ideally Further Maths too, but we're happy to consider teachers who only have 11-16 experience and a desire to extend their own practice.

You're likely to be an experienced colleague and we want to offer you every opportunity to hone your own teaching practice and develop your career. We run an in-house leadership programme (Leaders for the Future) focusing on high level discussion, reading and research. All staff are encouraged to engage with professional development opportunities including both external courses and internal programmes such as our working groups and TeachMeet.

Our PPA time is deliberately generous, aiming to give our teachers a chance to maintain a healthy work-life balance and build strong departments. We also allocate significant funding every year to professional development, well above national average, and offer the chance to contribute to working groups on teaching & learning and literacy.

In short, we are committed to investing in every member of staff - we see this as an investment for our both our staff, and the young people they serve.

So, why not invest an hour to come and see Kennet School for yourself? We love welcoming visitors to our school and are confident our current staff and fabulous young people will convince you to join us.

More information on our school can be found at https://jobs/kennet-school/index.htm

Informal discussions and requests for application packs are welcomed by our partner recruiter at Hays Education, Richard Lanning, .

Closing date: 19 March 2018. Kennet School reserve the right to close and shortlist early, therefore early applications are encouraged.

This school is committed to safeguarding children and expects all staff to share in that commitment; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
