About The Role

We now have an opportunity for a Scientific User Support and Health and Safety Coordinator (internally know as Senior Experimental Hall Co-ordinator) within our Physical Science division.

This is a hands-on role for somebody with relevant technical experience to join an existing team which covers a 24 hour, 7 day shift pattern.

The role will provide technical assistance to scientists, visitors and users of the Diamond Synchrotron, undertaking fault diagnosis and resolution and providing comprehensive assistance for remote access experiments.

You will also monitor activities within the Experimental Hall to ensure compliance with company Safety and statutory requirements, undertaking the duties of a Radiation Protection Supervisor and acting as a Diamond Emergency Controller, responding to safety alarms and incidents.

Extensive training is provided for this role (in-house and external) so some travel may be required.

About You

Suitable candidates will have proven experience from within a comparable Science or Technical environment and/or from technical / technician role, including experience in handling of hazardous chemicals, specialist gases and gas systems / equipment and the use of cryogens (including pressurised dewars).

There is a strong emphasis on Health and Safety so knowledge of HSE legislation, risk assessments and COSHH is required, with safety qualifications desirable.

The ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment, and carry out general electronic and engineering tasks and use general workshop equipment is required.

You should be highly motivated and able to work under your own initiative with excellent communication and IT skills.
