The Assistant Caretaker has the following core duties:
a) Jointly responsible with the Caretaker for daily maintenance and facilities tasks in and around the school premises, providing assistance when requested by staff to set up rooms, move equipment, clean up after pupil illness or accidents etc. and generally facilitate the smooth running of the daily operations.
b) Security of the school premises, ensuring all doors and gates are locked at the appropriate time and completing a security sweep of the property before locking up each evening.
c) Supporting the set up or clearance of rooms for out of hours functions, either during the week or occasionally over the weekend.
d) Be on the Security Alarm call out list for any out of hours alarm activations and respond as required.
e) Undertake internal health and safety checks and keeping the grounds clear and safe for Play or general movement of pupils, staff, parents or visitors.
f) Act as a key Response Person/Fire Marshall in case of Fire or Emergency, assisting with the safe evacuation and liaising where necessary with the Emergency Services.
g) Working with the Caretaker on larger jobs requiring greater manpower and cover for the Caretaker’s duties and responsibilities when he is absent, which will include working alternative work patterns as required.
h) Liaison with maintenance contractors visiting the school to complete essential work.
i) Jointly responsible with the Caretaker for ensuring the minibuses are ready for use on a daily basis, visual safety checks, cleaning, refuelling, and parking. On standby for assisting with pick up or collection of children on school bus runs or trip logistics.
j) Jointly responsible with the Caretaker to complete and evidence the regular daily, weekly and termly property and grounds checks.
k) In School Holiday time additional focus is placed on larger project improvement works, classroom refurbishment, decorating, grounds repairs etc.
l) All work must be taken with strict adherence to health and safety regulations and guidance, for which appropriate training will be provided by the school.
The successful candidate will ideally be personable, flexible and committed, able to deal with a wide and varied workload and responsive to the schools ever changing needs.
They are organised, prioritising the workload accordingly with adherence to child safety at all times.
Handyman skills for woodwork, decorating, general DIY, plumbing.
Clean Driving licence with preferable D1 category addition.
Enthusiastic and passionate in ensuring the school runs smoothly.
The candidate will require an Enhanced DBS certificate (to be requested on acceptance of the post).
