Sales Manager - Food Ingredients

Our Client is a major Distributor of Ingredients to the Food Industry.

They are now seeking a Sales Manager - Food Ingredients. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Director of the Food Division. Location within the UK is flexible.

Purpose of Job

  • To increase sales of Food Ingredients by effective commercial account management and by development of new business
  • To develop the customer base of Food Division customers for Health and Nutrition applications and to manage and develop the business relationship with principals

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Sales and Sales development
  • Managing principal business relationships
  • Providing market intelligence to support sales and marketing activities

Detail Behind Responsibilities

Sales and Sales Development, including:

  • Development of sales in the designated application area, ad hoc national support and development of customers in other regions with whom a good working relationship has been developed or where the account manager has specialized knowledge of a given application
  • Prospecting, including the identification of suspects and prospects, securing appointments and matching prospects needs and our offerings
  • Selling, including sales visits, winning sales, following through, call and visit reporting on CRM system, and development and delivery of sales presentations
  • Account management, including development and implementation of account development plans
  • Call planning
  • Providing technical support to existing and potential new customers
  • Liaison with quality personnel and customers to assist in the professional resolution of customer complaints

Managing Principal Business Relationships, including:

  • Provision of market intelligence, including trends, competitor activity and industry information as required
  • Monthly or quarterly reporting on sales activity
  • Arranging customer visits
  • Development plans for principal business, including the identification of new business opportunities
  • Problem resolution, ensuring systems are set up and problems affecting principals are overseen

Providing market intelligence to support Food Sales and Marketing

Activity, including:

  • Promotional activity planning
  • Pricing strategies
  • Market evaluation of application areas as required for additional applications of existing ingredients or for potential new Principals
  • Monthly summary of activities and performance vs. budget to be presented at the sales meeting in rotation with other sales managers
  • Preparation of Technical presentations to be used for customers and potentials and also to be given to outside organizations

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Chemistry, Food Science or equivalent is ideally required
  • You will have solid sales experience within the UK food ingredients industry
  • Sales experience within Health and Nutrition is particularly desirable
  • You will need to be a good communicator, results driven, commercially astute, proactive, organised and technically competent
  • You will need a full UK driving licence

In return our client is offering a competitive package for the successful Candidate including a basic salary of £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (salary is negotiable dependent on experience) plus comprehensive benefits including company car and bonus scheme.
