Account Manager / Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding

Are you a dynamic and commercially driven Account Manager / Business Development Manager to join our dynamic freight forwarding team? An exciting opportunity as arisen for someone who is adept at managing and growing customer relationships, developing new business opportunities, and maintaining existing accounts within the international transport solutions sector, including air, ocean and road freight, as well as associated logistics services.

Day-to-day duties of the role:

  • Business Development & Sales:

    • Identify, target, and develop new customer opportunities through proactive prospecting and networking.
    • Build and maintain a structured sales pipeline, from initial contact through to contract negotiation and onboarding.
    • Promote a full suite of freight forwarding and logistics services to existing and new clients.
    • Prepare and deliver commercial proposals, quotations and tenders in line with customer requirements.
    • Negotiate rates, contracts and service agreements to achieve profitable growth.
  • Account Management:

    • Manage a portfolio of existing customer accounts, ensuring high service levels and long-term retention.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, coordinating internal teams to deliver agreed solutions.
    • Identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities across transport modes and value-added services.
    • Conduct regular account reviews, monitoring performance, service levels, and commercial outcomes.
  • Commercial & Operational Coordination:

    • Work closely with operations teams to ensure smooth execution of shipments and customer requirements.
    • Provide accurate forecasting, reporting, and pipeline updates to management.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, pricing dynamics, and competitor activity.
    • Ensure all commercial activities comply with internal procedures, compliance requirements, and industry regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in freight forwarding sales, account management, or business development.
  • Solid understanding of international logistics solutions, including air, ocean, and road freight.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to price, negotiate, and close profitable business.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confident using CRM systems and sales reporting tools.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and results-focused, with a high level of personal accountability.
  • Experience working collaboratively with operational and support teams.
